I was about having a test ride on a shaft driven VX800 today, as I am considering buying a long-range touring bike for two-up. My Suzuki-dealer around the corner has a usend onde in excellent condition with windshield, saddle bags etc. for a reasinable price (not letting go my good old LS of course...). It started snowing laste night however, so I´ll have to wait a couple od days for this experience.
As for a "natural progression" from the Savage I´d opt the new Moto Guzzi V 11 Jackal, which is still quite a basic bike with lots of torque and NOT a HD copy.
OTOH, I´m happy with my bike and it serves me better around here than a bigger bike would do.
I live about 20 kms south of Frankfurt, 85 kms north of Heidelberg. There is an area inbetween called Odenwald, all hillside country with minor roads, lovely turns etc. This ist the terrain where my Savage keeps up with every big bike.
